Measuring Cups, Measuring Spoons and Scales, OH MY!!

Like I said, I'm refocusing - I'm getting back. From weight watchers I learned how important measuring cups, spoons & scales are.

Oh, I used my scale and I looked at the cups & spoons in admiration as they sat there shining in the kitchen ceiling light. After all, I can eye-ball it..... after all how hard can it be? *evil laughter and rubbing hands together from that inner voice that helped me get to where I am*

This week I got those shiny measuring units dirty. Reality may be quite shocking for folks used to gobbling half-pounders and overflowing plates of pasta. Look at your computer mouse. That's how big a baked potato should be. Next time you cradle your smartphone, think of it as a grilled steak. That's the 3- to 4-ounce portion of meat you're supposed to be eating at one sitting. Honestly.

Conventional wisdom says that a baseball equals 1 cup and a tennis ball about a half. But who's playing baseball and tennis anymore, unless it's on the Wii? (Oh, and the Wii controller is roughly a double portion of meat.)

Just a little touch
She never used measuring spoons. She would just add a touch of this and a touch of that. It seemed that she knew what additions to add to get the right taste. Oh! I do recall folks using the word “touch” when they were uncertain of an outcome of a

What's Not to Love About Google's New Recipe Search? Plenty.
In the classes I teach, I occasionally hide the measuring spoons so my students learn to trust their tastebuds. David Lebovitz of DavidLebovitz.com tested one of his recipes with rich snippets; Google would not accept a cooking instruction of “2 to 3
