When I was first hired by Anthropologie (exactly two years ago today!) I knew I was going to meet some extraordinary people. One such person was Michele Costa, who is the display coordinator at our store in Toronto. She, along with my friend Cindy Ha - the apparel manager at the time - trained with me at the Anthropologie stores in Detroit for a week. It was an exciting time and the three of us shared frequent (and tearful) laughter. Not long after we were hired, the company held a contest for all of its employees: who could design the best and most-creative set of measuring cups? I submitted an entry, along with five others from our store, as did Michele. Out of the hundreds of entries, Michele's design was eventually chosen as the best! Along with a series of great prizes, Michele's biggest treat was seeing her design manufactured by the company. Atlanta resident to give lessons on making apple pie

Bill Thomas of Atlanta will teach a class on how to make a homemade pie from 6 to 8 p.m. April 7 in the Fellowship Hall of Eminence Christian Church, 1605 2500th St., approximately three miles west of Atlanta.

Thomas will use an Illinois State Fair award-winning recipe. Individuals will learn how to make three different types of piecrust using shortening, lard and oil. The class will use a basic apple filling recipe that can be modifyed for use with a variety of fruits. Thomas said it will be an evening of fun designed for first-time, as well as experienced, bakers, and provide the opportunity to prepare an apple pie that can be baked at home.

There is a $25 charge for the class. For more information, call Bill Thomas at 648-5077 or e-mail him at: wthomas@teleologic.net to reserve a spot. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Individuals need to bring items listed in the equipment/-food list, along with some Granny Smith apples. All other food supplies needed to assemble the pie will be provided.
