STUDENTS COLLECT $5000 FOR VALLE LINDO PTO

The Valle Lindo School District PTO sponsored a fundraising event entitled “Pennies for PTO.” Students at Dean L. Shively Middle School and New Temple Elementary School collected their loose change to raise money for the PTO. Both schools together raised nearly $5,000 for the PTO.

The PTO has graciously donated most of the money raised for eighth grade scholarships, the student welfare fund, and library books for both schools.

The class who collected the most money at each school earned a pizza and ice cream celebration party. Students in the classes who filled their collection jar earned raffle tickets for a new bicycle and helmet. Winners of new bicycles were Seth Corzantes of Shively Middle School and Aaliyah Cordova of New Temple.

An especially fun aspect of the fundraising effort was a challenge between the principals of both schools as to which school would collect the most amount of money. New Temple won the contest and students got to shave Principal Gannon’s head. Mrs. Peralta’s class was the top earning class at New Temple Elementary. She took the first snip of the principal’s hair and all of her students followed. After every student took several snips, Board Member David Del Rio took the electric shaver and leveled Mr. Gannon’s head. PTO Vice President Rosie Strohl finished the job observed by PTO President Carla Mata and member Yolanda Del Rio. Several students commented that the “new do” made their principal look younger.
