The Wishing Well restaurant in St. Johns serves, according to the letters running along one wall, "Chinese American Food," but online reviewers concentrate more on the establishment's strong, cheap drinks.

For Zero Feeney, who leads historical walking tours of St. Johns, the Wishing Well is a great example of an Art Moderne building -- an architectural style that became popular at the tail end of the Art Deco period. He points out the building's streamlined curves, the glass bricks inset into the stucco walls and the porthole above the entrance. "It's kind of a faded flower right now, he says. But, he adds, "when friends come to visit me, more of them take photos of this place than of the St. Johns Bridge."

Feeney, a St. Johns resident, actor and stay-at-home dad, is on the design committee of the St. Johns Main Street Coalition , which aims to preserve and revitalize historic commercial districts, and he's been leading walking tours of downtown St. Johns for a few months.
