Now, you can wear it – or at least its essence – on your arm.

A new jewelry line available in South Carolina only at Sylvan & DuBose on Harden Street harkens back to a time when people used repoussé silver flatware, hairbrushes and even cuticle pushers.

“It was part of your everyday lives,” said Carolyn O’Keefe, managing partner for Repousse’ Jewelry, based in New York and Baltimore. “It was a touch of elegance.”

Artist Michael Galmer created the jewelry line nearly two years ago, handcrafting each piece in the repoussé style – which means a pattern is pushed out from the back and then the piece is engraved on the front to create a unique design.

The line recently was introduced in Columbia, one of only 10 cities where it is currently available at a retail store. The rollout is slow because the jewelry is not mass produced.
