Starr shines bright for the judges
Abilene native Ben Starr has spent many episodes as a bottom performer on this season of Fox's "MasterChef," but Monday's show was not one of those episodes.
The episode opened with the 12 remaining contestants on the roof of the Hollywood hotel that houses judge Gordon Ramsay's five-star restaurant.
Because of his outstanding performance on last week's episode, Starr was made a team captain for this week's high-end catering challenge.
Starr, who selected only females, appeared surprised that his team was being given 90 minutes to produce a standout catered selection for party guests.
Even with the time crunch, his team created vegetable, beef and dessert courses that Starr hoped would wow guests.
A few accidents in the kitchen led Starr's team to serve a strawberry and kumquat dessert that Ramsay was not proud of. In fact, he said it was the worst thing to ever leave the kitchen of his restaurant.
However, Starr appeared confident in the dessert, telling guests it was a "first bite of springtime."
